Morning chats

Sometimes you just have to throw your messy hair up in a pony tail and go to Starbucks with your kid. Let her eat a cookie for breakfast…add some chocolate milk with the cookie. And just talk…

Talk about…her friends

…her enemies

…about why she can and can’t do certain things

…the movies she likes to watch

…her feelings

…what she wants to be when she grows, and why

From the day Melody was born I’ve asked the Lord to help me draw the line in being her mom and not her friend, but at the same time being the one she always wants to come to.

He has shown me that it comes in moments like this.

When I put my phone down is when I get these moments.
When I shut down the computer and unplug from the world I get her full attention.
When bed time isn’t rushed and we can lay in bed and talk about our day…that’s when I find her frustrations, what excites her, and what we need to work on.

Time is precious. It’s something we can never get back and by not using it wisely it becomes the number one regret for many in life.

In moments like this I am reminded of Dave. Dave was an executive president at a company I used to work for. When I sat in his office and talked about my “one day” position for the company that seemed so high and promising vs. staying home with my daughter, he looked at me and said “go home and be with your child. You will never get that time back and it goes so fast – if you don’t, you will regret it.”

He was right. And to hear someone who was so highly esteemed tell me that “work will always be an option but your kid is only little for a short time” was exactly what I needed to hear.

We can’t all be stay at home mom’s but we all have the same amount of hours in a day…it’s about how we use our time that matters!
